Finding Common Ground: An Encaustic Exhibition

  • Genesee Valley Council on the Arts 4 Murray Hill Drive Mount Morris, NY, 14510 United States (map)

Join us at the GVCA as we celebrate the opening of this unique temporary exhibition, presenting a diverse body of contemporary 2D and 3D art created by more than two dozen artists who work with beeswax-based art media.

The Working With Wax Group—founded and led by encaustic painting expert Kathryn Bevier in 2015—is an alliance of Western New York artists who work with media based in beeswax as their primary studio practice. Members share ideas, best practices, and seek guidance from one another as they explore the possibilities of the medium of beeswax.

“The exhibit’s title, Finding Common Ground, speaks to the unity of the members in their commitment to exploring artmaking in the medium of wax,” says Bevier. “What each artist has accomplished with wax goes in a thousand intriguing directions. You have to see this show to glimpse the potential of the medium.”

Opening Reception: February 26, 2022, from 2:00-4:00 PM. Refreshments will be provided. Arrive early for a special demonstration of LIVE encaustic painting, from 1:00-3:00 PM. Don’t miss it!
